I write this poem ode after having gone through a number of floods and being greatful to have come out virtually unscathed. That is aside from the emotional scarring, which will probably haunt me for many years to come.
I know to some this poem or ode may seem to rhyme. The reason for this was at the time, it was the only thing that helped stop me from crying. Though I can't remember much detail from the time, the more I thought the more the tears would well. I guess my sub concious was taking me straight back to the hell.

I had a strange feeling almost twelve months ago to the day, a nagging and nawing that just wouldn't go away. Again in Christmas 2010 2011 January an almost identical flood happened. When I heard the news the fear and dread, I was almost out of my head when, I couldn't get my family on the phone,. That is part the reason why I dedicate this work to the flood victims of Australia.
PLUS I am so greatful the Salvation Army was able to help my family, in the begining of 2011 my wife & I were able to donate 40+ kilo of clothes, home made soap, toys and other stuff to the Salvation Army Brisbane flood appeal.

A Christmas tear
Christmas, the year 1974,
was fast approaching to our door
We were not rich,
We were not poor
What happened next,
left us in awe
Little did, we all know,
Twas the year, A Christmas tear would flow
Twas only just, my fifth year,
The first time for me A Christmas tear
Australia was the place that year,
Who would shed A Christmas tear
Cyclone Tracey tore our homes apart,
Along with them so was my heart
Just a little blonde boy, who knew no bad,
The christmas that year, he knew only sad
The petrol drums banging, the floor underneath,
whilst creaking from water, trying to breech
The howling, the cracking, the ripping and tearing,
the ever rising water, was just so scaring
Twas over almost as fast it begun
Then a strange thing happened,
to which we were stunned
The hand outs, help and mateship, it went on for weeks,
finally, had brought, a smile to our cheeks.

2011 Possible Flood
I just found out this year in December 2011 so far we have had 3.2 ml more rain than last year. I hope we certainly don't have another repeated flood :-|

Truly amazing the strength of the human spirit. Your poetry demonstrates this very well. The strength of those who endured and those who helped one another throughout. Awesome poem!
Hi Ausis
"Just a little blonde boy, who knew no bad,
The christmas that year, he knew only sad"
My heart broke when I read these words.
The hand outs, help and mateship, it went on for weeks,
finally, had brought, a smile to our cheeks.
It's good to be reminded of the kindness of others.
